Barbie Immersive Video Diorama

Interactive video fly-through of Barbie's worlds through history

As Barbie's 50th anniversary approached, Mattel wanted to celebrate it in a big way. Our idea was to build a massive diorama of Barbie dolls, buildings, and accessories, and record a sweeping video fly-through with interaction hotspots along the way. The video would also loop in on itself, repeating infinitely with no end or apparent beginning.

Through the 70s...

...into the 21st century.

A unique format was created to communicate the user flow through the infinitely-looped video and user interaction states. A loading screen transitioned into a quick introduction which eased into the video. Audio would be queed up at defined points in the timelin, and hotspots would allow users to pause and explore the products.
